INTRODUCTION:

Foreign currency markets are the most volatile markets. Cross border trade -means doing trade with someone whose currency is different from ours, and hence we cannot avoid the risk involved in such trades. With better understanding of markets, and knowing the risks involved, exporters can manage forex risks, as it is not possible to totally eliminate the same. This session, thus throws light on various aspects of forex markets so as to enable traders to take calculated risks , rather than just follow what is told or heard.

Speaker:

Mr. Gaurang Vasavada

” Gaurang Vasavada is an ex-banker with over 39 years of banking career. He is an Honors Graduate, CAIIB, and holds a Diploma in International Banking, Certificate in Foreign Exchange Operations and Certificate in Trade Finance from Indian Institute of Banking and Finance.

Having worked at all levels, his area of operations, for over 3 decades has been Trade, Trade Finance, Forex Treasury and Trade Compliance. He has handled Forex Treasury operations as Chief Dealer and as Head of Forex Treasury and was also Head of International Banking Department at the erstwhile Bank of Rajasthan Ltd. He has been a part of Trade Audit, Service and Compliance team and as a Subject Matter Expert (SME)– Trade, at ICICI Bank.

He has been an academic resource person for Indian Institute of Banking and Finance for the past several years.

He has been actively involved in trainings both at Bank of Rajasthan and ICICI Bank for several years. He is also a Faculty for FEDAI, and has also been invited to various forums by RBI, Jaipur.

After his superannuation in August 2020, he has been actively involved in trainings and seminars for bankers as well as Corporates. In the last 4 years., he has conducted over 750 training sessions for bankers and over 250 sessions for corporates, being a regular subject speaker at seminars organized by FIEO and other Export Promotion councils, He is currently a regular guest faculty at Foreign Exchange Dealers Association of India (FEDAI), Indian Institute of Banking and finance (IIBF) and a few of the public and private sector banks. He is also associated with All India Management Association (AIMA), Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA), Exim Institute, Mumbai, Global Exim, Hyderabad, JBS Academy Ahmedabad, CII, Assocham, AFAI, regularly conducting sessions for bankers and exporters. He also conducts In-company workshops for corporates on various aspects of international trade, FEMA, RBI guidelines and related compliances.

He is also a Partner of FexFin Associates LLP, handling consulting assignments relating to FEMA, Export, Import, Trade Finance and Trade Compliance, including regulatory matters both on current account and capital account. “.

Mr. Kamal Singhania (Senior Vice President, Forex Settlement, CCIL)

Mr. Kamal Singhania is a Senior Vice President and he heads CCIL’s Forex settlement and FX trading platforms which includes Forex Forwards and Cross currency settlement (CLS) for interbank market, forex platforms for banks, financial institutions, corporates and entire retail segment.

An integral part of CCIL’s growth journey since 2001, Mr. Singhania has introduced industry leading innovations that offer convenience with user friendly solutions to the financial markets in India.

Prior to joining CCIL, he worked for Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI) for more than 7 years.

Mr. Singhania is a science graduate from Kolkata University and a qualified Chartered Accountant (all India 31st rank). He is a qualified Cost Accountant (ICWA) and has completed FRM.

Mr. Durgesh Srivastava (Vice President, Forex Settlement, CCIL)

Mr. Durgesh Srivastava has over 25+ years of multifaceted work experience in Banking. He has expertise in across Treasury faces like Forex and Interest Rates Market- Front Office (Trading & Sales), Mid Office and Operations.

Mr. Srivastava has been associated with CCIL since September 2023 and leads the Forex Settlement department. He is responsible for forex business which includes offering of trading platforms to interbank participants and non-bank customers, Forex settlements, relationship with member banks and regulatory bodies.

Prior to joining CCIL, he has also worked with Axis Bank for over 16 years in different capacities primarily in Treasury trading and sales. Mr. Srivastava started his professional journey as Probationary Officer in 1998 with State Bank of Travancore (currently State Bank of India) and has delivered banking services to Bank customers in several capacities after initial probation of two years.

Mr. Srivastava is Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA-ICFAI), CAIIB- Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF) and a post graduate in Mathematics.
