Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Seetharaman, has asked the government’s policy think tank, NITI Aayog to map all industrial projects such as freight corridors, National Industrial Manufacturing Zones, PLI-based industry parks, logistics parks, textile parks and pharma hubs and industrial corridors, and determine the feasibility of bringing them all under the PM Gati Shakti initiative, to enable optimum utilisation of resources.

Seetharam has also asked the Shipping Ministry to look into all the seaports in the country and their linkages with industrial corridors. Further, the FM recommended that the Commerce Ministry, under Piyush Goyal, review the three industrial corridors of south India – Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor, Bengaluru Mumbai Industrial Corridor, and Vizag Chennai Industrial Corridor and their nodes.

These suggestions were made as part of a seven points action plan elaborated during the first meeting of the monitoring authority constituted to review activities of the National Industrial Corridor Development programme.  Chief ministers from six states – Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Uttarkhand, among others, attended the meeting.

Launched in October 2021, PM Gati Shakti is a digital initiative aimed at providing multimodal connectivity infrastructure to various economic zones.
