LEAD (LOW EMISSION ASIA DEVELOPMENT) PROGRAM

The USAID Lead Program and Bombay Chamber are working jointly for the last two years from July 2014 to June 2016 to contribute towards development of the Indian business sector that is recognized as national, regional and global leader in corporate green growth which will in turn boost the sustainability and profitability of businesses. Bombay Chamber is the only non-government entity with whom USAID has partnered for the LEAD Program implementation in Asia.

  • In the past 2 years, this partnership has provided training, expertise and networking opportunities on corporate green growth and sustainability to interested member companies of the Chamber
  • The objective of this program is to build the capacity of government and non-governmental partners in developing low carbon development strategies to cut down Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHGs)

Activities

Trainings and Workshops: The topics covered at the trainings focus on themes such as Green Growth, Greenhouse Gas Accounting & Management, Resource Conversation and, Waste Management and Sustainability. We have completed 15 trainings in past two years.

The Certified trainings on components of Green Growth are conducted at

  • Introductory level
  • Advanced level
  • Sector Specific trainings

The Senior Officials from government participate to give inputs during the training

  • Central and State Pollution Control Board
  • Food and Drug Administration of Maharashtra
  • Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH)
  • National Productivity Council (NPC- Chennai)

Direct Technical Assistance

  • The  Direct Technical Assistance  program was conducted in Feb 2016 to demonstrate the Continuous Emission Monitoring of Emissions and Effluent through technical sessions and site visits  to TATA power Ltd ,Trombay plant for Stack and Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Systems and Indofil Industries Ltd, Thane for effluent monitoring systems

Regional networking

  • To provide opportunities to network and engage with other entities interested in green growth in Asia. A networking event was organised in the month of November 2014.
  • Asia Low Emission Development Strategy (LEDS) Forum was held in Nov 10-14 2014 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The representatives from Glenmark Generics and Godfrey Philips Pvt Ltd attended the Forum
  • Opportunity to interact with government and non-government stakeholders at the Forum and understand their respective LEDS
  • Shared success stories about the sustainability initiatives of the Chamber and their companies with the audience

In the upcoming month, one event on E-waste and a training in Gender mainstreaming is planned in first quarter of the financial year 16-17.
