Introduction :

Effective oral & written communication skills are essential for the smooth functioning of different Departments and of the Organization. In email communications best email practices have to be followed.


There can be no relationship without communication. Even in a strained relationship people have to be professional enough to have at least a working relationship. Listening with responsibility, ensuring understanding through 2-way communication are other vital areas of communication. For Communication to be effective the different nuances of verbal and nonverbal communication and differing perceptions of people have to be taken into account.


Not only oral but written communication too has to be clear and effective for successful organizations.


Clarity in writing can save time, money and energy of every company. Inconsistent, shabby writing of emails across different Companies, Countries can never enhance the company image. Millions of rupees and goodwill are lost due to unclear, inconsistent, verbose business communication. This training input is geared to help participants write clear, reader-friendly emails.

Day I - Oral Communication
Objectives:

5.     To sensitize them about barriers in communication and to overcome them

1.     ‘Musts’ to communicate with impact

2.    Nuts & bolts of communication skills – Verbal Communication with seniors, customers & peers, 2-way communication, use of all channels, skillful listening, “you” centered communication, classifying a complex message,

3.     Overcoming barriers in communication: psychological and cultural barriers

4.     Skillful listening – a key to communicate well - techniques to improve listening skills, clarifying, listening with responsibility, types of listening

5.     Intelligent use of voice through techniques like lifting key words, putting life into words

6.     Building ‘working relationship’ to make communication easy


Day II - Written Communication
Objectives :

1.     To give the participants the technology of effective business writing

2.     To develop the skill to write in a clear, reader friendly way which give results

3.     To learn about best email practices, email etiquette

4.     To strengthen writing skills, to learn about the secret of effective business writing


Contents:
1. Written communication - Five Steps to Successful Email Writing

a)     Preparation - be clear about your purpose, identify your reader’s needs

b)    Research – When required compile a set of notes, create a working outline, collect bits of information you will need

c)    Organization - determine best sequence to present your ideas, organize so the readers can comprehend easily, outlining makes complex subject easier to organize

d)    Writing the Draft - convert your outline into sentences and paragraphs, Just start – do not worry about a good beginning

e)     Revision - revision is the final step, read and evaluate the draft from reader’s point of view

2. Mechanics of Writing

a)     Remove clutter and fog  in writing

b)    Enhance readability through good presentation

c)     Introduce visual appeal through the use of listing (types of list), brief paragraphs, use of heading and subheadings

d)    Use of Inverted Pyramid in writing to get results

e)     When to use bullets and numbering

f)      Thumb Rule for email title

g)     Secret of good writing
