Webinar on Stalling and Reversing The Opt-Out Revolution - Oct 30, 2020

Description :

As discussed by Lisa A. Mainiero and Sherry E. Sullivan in their article “Kaleidoscope Careers: An Alternate Explanation for The Opt-Out Revolution” (2005) * women are increasingly choosing to opt out of the workforce. The current COVID crisis has exasperated this phenomenon. All of this, despite the fact, that in the last two decades, women have been out-educating men. What explains the fact that while women are investing more in their education but they are becoming increasingly reluctant to develop and manifest long-term careers in the corporate world?

The numbers of women and the rate at which they are falling out of the workforce is alarming enough not just for the individual organizations but also for the economy at large. The urgency of these trends justifies it being classified as a revolution. This is undoing the unprecedented participation and achievement by women in the workforce through past revolutions which ensured women’s greater equality and empowerment.

A variety of social, cultural, civic and institutionalized conditions, weigh more heavily on women’s career trajectories as opposed to men. These conditions are surprisingly common and prevalent at a global level and not just true for India.

This webinar will help identify and articulate the above-mentioned factors and help create foundational strategies from a micro to macro level to mobilise key players and institutions towards mitigation and reversal of this opt out revolution.
