Two Days Certified Training on Mental Health First Aid - Nov 19, 2019

Background :

Mental health is fundamental to our collective and individual ability as humans to think, emote, interact with each other, earn a living and enjoy life. On this basis, the promotion, protection and restoration of mental health can be regarded as a vital concern of individuals, communities and societies throughout the world. Poor mental health is associated with rapid social change, stressful work conditions, gender discrimination, social exclusion, unhealthy lifestyle, physical ill-health and human rights violations. There are specific psychological and personality factors that make people vulnerable to mental health problems.

In any organization, the workforce is its biggest asset. Without a mentally healthy workplace, the team will experience low morale, people will become cynical, stressed and anxious; physical health problems will increase, sickness levels will rise, productivity will drop and organizational climate will be affected. A mentally healthy workplace is one which is seen as a happy and friendly place to work. It has high productivity levels and is efficient, and is open to discussions about mental health issues. Most of us associate First Aid with physical first aid that involves giving life-saving help & support during an emergency event. On the contrary, very little is known or done for mental health issues. Mental health problem includes depression, anxiety, stress related disorders, psycho somatic conditions and alcohol / drug related problems etc.

10% of the general population in India suffers from mental health problems.

42% of employees in workplaces suffer from mental health problems.

Most people (83%) do not seek help for these problems either because they are unaware that they have a mental health issue & do not know where to get help, or feel too stigmatized (ashamed, embarrassed) to ask for help.

Most times, people who are affected are not aware that they are going through a mental health problem. It is, therefore, for those around them to recognize and take the needful action.
