DR. MATHUKUMALLI VIDYASAGAR, FRS SERB - NATIONAL SCIENCE CHAIR & DISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR IIT HYDERABAD

M. Vidyasagar was born in Guntur, AP on 29th September 1947.  He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1965, 1967, and 1969 respectively.  During his 50-plus year career, he has been an academic, and the founder of two R&D laboratories, one under the Government of India and another in TCS.  


His current research interests are in machine learning.  Recently he has been working on the mathematical modelling of the COVID-19 pandemic in India and in other countries.


Vidyasagar has received several awards in recognition of his research, including Fellowship in The Royal Society.  At present he is one of nine SERB National Science Chairs in India, in all branches of science and engineering.
