Maharashtra Govt. Amends Contract Labour (R&A) Act, 1970, Raising Coverage Limit to 50 Workmen   Feb 01, 2017

Ref: Maharashtra Act II of 20017 - Notification dated 05.01.2017 

  • The Maharashtra Government, by the above amendment to the  Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Act, 1970 has raised the number of workmen from twenty to fifty workmen for the purpose of the applicability of the Act to an establishment and to the contractor. 

  • Section 1(4) of the Act has been amended whereby the Act will be applicable:

a) to every establishment in which fifty or more workmen are employed on any day of the preceding twelve months as contract labour,

b) to every contractor who employs or who employed on any day of the preceding twelve months fifty or more workmen.    

  • Consequential amendments have accordingly been made to the Act.

  •  A copy of the Government Notification is reproduced below for information.

  •  Members may please note the above changes during compliance of the statute in their establishments.
