Karnataka issues Ordinance amending Applicability threshold limits in Industrial Disputes Act (Chapter VB), Factories Act and Contract Labour Act   Jul 31, 2020

The Government of Karnataka has issued an ordinance dated 31st July 2020 increasing the limit of applicability of Chapter VB from 100 to 300 workmen. Chapter VB requires industrial establishments to obtain prior permission from the appropriate government for lay-off, retrenchment or closure. 

The provisions of the Factories Act 1948 have also been amended to increase the threshold from 10 to 20 for units carrying on manufacturing activities with the aid of power and from 20 to 40 for units carrying on manufacturing activities without the aid of power. The cap on overtime has been increased from 75 hours to 125 hours.

The provisions of the Contract Labour Act will apply to establishments engaging 50 or more workmen as against 20.
