Advisory issued by the commissioner of labour, maharashtra to employers not to terminate services of employees or reduce their wages during the shut down.   Mar 20, 2020

The Commissioner of Labour, Government of Maharashtra, has issued an advisory dated 20th March 2020 requesting employers not to terminate services of their employees and not to reduce their wages or treat the employees on leave without pay during the shut down for containment and prevention of COVID 19. The Advisory states the services of casual workers as well as contractual workers should not be terminated. If any employee proceeds on leave he should be treated on duty and no wages should be deducted.
If the place of employment is made non-operational due to COVID 19, the employees of such units should be treated on duty.

A copy of the circular is attached and also uploaded on the web site of the Chamber.

The Advisory states that absence of an employee during the period of shut down will be treated as period spent on duty and hence neither any wages can be deducted nor can an employee be treated as on leave.

Members are requested to take a note of the said communication and act accordingly.
